When considering a lithium backup battery option for Fronius Gen24 
grid-connected systems, there are two main choices: DC-coupled batteries by BYD and AC-coupled by Sonnen 

BYD batteries are often chosen for Fronius systems due to their high energy density, safety features, reliability, and compatibility with Fronius' inverter technology. BYD's Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries offer a longer lifecycle and greater efficiency, enhancing the overall performance of solar energy systems integrated with Fronius inverters. Furthermore, the combination allows for effective energy management and storage solutions, enabling users to maximize their solar energy use.
The Sonnen German-engineered battery, known as the Sonnen Batterie, is a home energy storage system designed to integrate with solar power systems. It enables homeowners to store excess energy generated from their solar panels for later use, enhancing energy independence and reducing reliance on the grid. The Sonnen Batterie is notable for its advanced battery management technology and sustainability approach, using lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries, which are known for their longevity and safety.

Morning:
  Minimal solar generation, high demand. When the sun rises, the photo voltaic system starts to produce electricity. However, it still cannot cover your electricity needs in the morning. The Sonnen Batterie bridges the gap with the energy stored from the previous day.

Midday: 
Maximum solar generation, low demand. The photovoltaic system produces most of the solar power during the day. However, in most cases either no one is home or your consumption is minimal. The surplus energy being generated is stored in your sonnenBatterie.

Evening: 
Minimal solar generation, highest demand. The electricity consumption reaches its peak in the evening, whereas the photovoltaic system is no longer producing any electricity. The sonnenBatterie now supplies the household with the electricity stored from midday.

Grid TieSolar System

A grid-tied solar system is seamlessly connected to the utility grid, allowing solar owners to send excess electricity to the grid when production exceeds demand - effectively utilizing the grid as a backup battery. In times when the solar panels fall short of meeting electricity needs (nighttime or during a rainy day), power can be drawn from the utility grid to supplement the shortfall. This is a process called net metering.

Grid-tied solar systems are the only type of solar system that don’t require a battery to function. This makes grid-tied systems cheaper and simpler to install, and also means there is less maintenance required.

Hybrid solar systems combine the best of grid-tied and off-grid solar systems. These systems can either be described as off-grid solar with utility backup power, or grid-tied solar with extra battery storage.

Hybrid solar systems are less expensive than off-grid solar systems. You don’t really need a backup generator, and the capacity of your battery bank can be downsized. If your battery runs out of charge at night, you can simply buy off-peak electricity from the utility company.

Off-grid solar systems are not connected to an electric grid, and utilize battery storage systems to balance energy demands. Houses with off-grid systems rely entirely on solar energy. Batteries are necessary with such systems—a home or business without a battery storage system wouldn’t be able to use electricity at night. 
The battery system stores excess electricity produced during the day, which can then be used at night to keep the lights on.
off-grid solar systems require high-capacity battery storage and a backup generator. On top of this, a battery bank typically needs to be replaced after 10 years​.
